Two ThreeSixty Journalism program alums, including 2022 ThreeSixty Scholar Gwynnevere Vang, are inaugural members of The New York Times Corps. Vang is joined on the Times Corps roster by fellow ThreeSixty alum Faaya Adem. They are two of only 20 selected for this inaugural group out of hundreds of nationwide applicants.
“‘Wow!’ That’s what came to mind when I heard this news,” said ThreeSixty Executive Director Chad Caruthers. “What a tremendous opportunity for Faaya and Gwynnevere, and what a testimony to their skills and futures.”
The new Times Corps is “a talent-pipeline program for college students to receive career guidance from Times journalists over a multiyear period,” according to the Times. Students will meet with their advisers throughout their undergraduate years.
Vang began journalism studies at the University of St. Thomas College of Arts and Sciences in fall 2022. Her Times Corps mentor is Sharon Chan, is the Culture and Careers Deputy.
Adem, a fall 2022 first-year student at the University of Minnesota, is partnered with John Eligon as her Times Corps mentor. Eligon is the Times’ bureau chief in Johannesburg.
Adem and Vang are the only students selected from Minnesota.
