Mission & Vision

ThreeSixty Journalism equips young Minnesotans to be sense makers, truth tellers, and bridge builders for an equitable society through multimedia journalism.

We strive for a Minnesota where every young person has access to a journalism education and where young people shape representative news media and civically connected communities.

Founded in 1971 to advance racial equity in journalism, ThreeSixty Journalism’s modern history began at the University of St. Thomas in 2001.

Our Strategic Priorities

We educate young people to think critically, find their voices, and become active participants in a democratic society through journalism and beyond.

We work to make journalism education accessible to all, through our own inclusive programs and advocacy to improve access systemically.

We strengthen professional journalism by grounding students in the importance of community-focused storytelling, enabling them to consume, produce, and advocate for a free press.

We offer pathways to professional purpose for young people who want to better their lives and communities.

Our Values

Youth leadership: We believe young people are drivers of change. We develop our students’ entrepreneurial mindsets, expand their networks, and build their confidence to lead.

Ingenuity: We embrace innovation and technological exposure and experimentation in our programming, balancing the use of emerging tools with ethical examination.

Justice: We challenge inequity and center the oppressed—in our programming, in journalism, and in society. We teach community-first reporting that emphasizes humility. We are attentive to power dynamics in everything we do. We seek to recognize and rectify harm where it exists.

Connection: We inspire authentic relationships across differences, strengthening society in the process. Through open dialogue, empathy, and instruction, we equip our community to approach unfamiliarity with courage, care, and curiosity.
