Where democracy-in-action meets journalism-in-action! Step into the shoes of a political reporter at the Capitol. You’ll get behind-the-scenes access and interview legislators, advocates, and staffers.
As a member of the 2024 Winter News Team, you will:
- Produce meaningful stories explaining 2023 policies to promote civic engagement among teens in your community
- Learn how to write and cover news at the University of St. Thomas and the Minnesota State Capitol
- Work with professional journalists, including Capitol reporters from Twin Cities newsrooms
- Gain civic literacy, journalistic storytelling acumen, and leadership skills
The Winter Workshop is open to all high school students. We are able to accept 15-17 students. Priority applicants will have a strong interest in the following: civic engagement, writing or storytelling, youth voice, politics/policy/government, and the intersections between any of the above. Students will receive a $200 stipend for completing their Winter Workshop story package.
