College Essay Workshop

Twin Cities youth, join us for College Essay Workshop 2025!

Are you applying to colleges or scholarships soon? Interested in writing your personal story? Come sharpen your storytelling voice at College Essay Workshop!

ThreeSixty Journalism and partner, Pillsbury United Community presents College Essay Workshop 2025, a 5-day workshop focused on personal/college essay writing for Twin Cities youth. As a student, you will develop your voice to create — start-to-finish — a polished, adaptable essay for submission to colleges, scholarships, and more. This is an intensive writing workshop centered around the college essay–its form, audience, style, and substance.

Through the College Essay Workshop, you will:

    • Receive hands-on support with generating thoughtful essay topics, outlining, and writing for specific audiences -such as admission committee readers
    • Learn to steward challenging or sensitive life experiences for writing and storytelling in ethical and thoughtful ways
    • Sharpen your collaborative, presenting, and youth leadership skills through activities and peer-to-peer reviews
    • Work out of the new interdisciplinary STEAM building, tour St. Thomas with campus Admissions, and experience college life

Students will be expected to bring 2-3 possible essay topics to the workshop, which we will help refine. Taking a trauma sensitive approach, ThreeSixty works closely with students to develop topics and arguments that stand out to admissions readers. Workshop includes a presentation from UST Admissions. You will work with professional volunteers from media industries across the Twin Cities to draft and edit your essay.

College Essay Workshop is open at no cost to all Twin Cities metro high school youth. Students receive a stipend after completion of the workshop to go toward transportation and Common App fees.
