ThreeSixty Journalism’s TV Broadcast Camp returns this summer with its strongest roster of media partners in the camp’s history. The one-week, one-of-a-kind TV Broadcast Camp for diverse high school students is sponsored by The Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and explores health equity issues in Minnesota.
This year, KMSP and BMA Cable Networks join returning media partners WCCO-TV, KSTP-TV, KARE 11 and Twin Cities Public Television. During the camp, students will spend five days learning from media-partner talent, covering everything from script–writing to on-camera interviewing. Professionals from Padilla and the University of St. Thomas will also participate in classroom teaching and student support.
At the conclusion of TV camp, each student will have completed an edited video package focused on creative physical activity outlets in diverse communities. The final packages will be shared via media–partner websites and broadcasts.
“TV Broadcast Camp offers advanced ThreeSixty students an opportunity to explore visual storytelling,” ThreeSixty Executive Director Chad Caruthers said. “It provides a chance for local media professionals to connect with and learn from the next generation of diverse storytellers. It shares ThreeSixty students’ voices and important narratives with our community.”
This is the third year of ThreeSixty’s TV Broadcast Camp. Padilla, Center for Prevention and ThreeSixty recently received two Classic Awards from Minnesota Public Relations Society of America for its summer 2018 project partnership.
“Blue Cross cannot succeed in its commitment to closing health inequities in Minnesota without changing the narrative about health and our diverse communities,” said Kirstie Foster, vice president, communications and social impact at Blue Cross. “We’re thrilled to work with such talented young journalists to illuminate how culturally-relevant community work can positively impact health, while giving them the experiences to lead the next generation in equitable storytelling.”
The 2019 TV Broadcast Camp takes place July 22-26 at St. Thomas in St. Paul.
