ThreeSixty News Reporter Academy students ended their two-week camp learning about what opportunities are next for budding journalists on Friday, July 19.
In the morning, students learned about the Journalism and Digital Media Arts program in the University of St. Thomas College of Arts and Sciences from Clinical Professor Greg Vandegrift. Students also had the opportunity to work in the TV studio and did a rotation from the anchor desk to behind-the-scenes positions including audio operator, director and teleprompter.
Students also met ThreeSixty alumna and 2017 Scholar Samantha HoangLong. She shared her portfolio with students and talked about her experience working at MinnPost and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Center for Prevention.
This summer HoangLong is interning at FOX 9 News through an internship with the Emma Bowen Foundation.
In the fall, HoangLong is taking over as the director of the student news organization, TommieMedia. She gave students a tour of the newsroom.
Student ate lunch with the REAL Program students, then headed on the bus to the University of Minnesota Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students toured the daily and met with several professors who engaged them in a conversation about media ethics.
