Maya Shelton-Davies
Lujain Al-Khawi

ThreeSixty Journalism is excited to announce that two of its students, Lujain Al-Khawi and Maya Shelton-Davies, have earned summer internships with ThreeSixty as part of the 2015 Pohlad Internship Program, which is offered through the Minnesota Newspaper Association (MNA). The internishps are paid, ten-week opportunities, with Pohlad Family Foundation covering 75% of the interns’ wages through a grant to MNA.

Al-Khawi and Shelton-Davies will create content for ThreeSixty Magazine and ThreeSixtyJournalism.org, blog regularly, help plan for ThreeSixty’s two summer camps and lead activities during summer camp over the ten-week period of the internships.

Al-Khawi is a graduating senior at Blaine High School who was a member of ThreeSixty’s Executive Board during the school-year program. A graduate of ThreeSixty’s 2014 Introduction to Journalism Camp, she has written on a variety of topics at ThreeSixty, including technology, religion, foreign relations and teen suicide, as well as had letters to the editor published in the Star Tribune and at MinnPost. Al-Khawi will attend George Washington University next fall.

Shelton-Davies is a graduating senior from River Falls High School in Wisconsin and a five-year veteran of ThreeSixty – which makes her the longest standing ThreeSixty student. A former NewsTeam member and a graduate of the 2012 Intermediate Summer Camp, Shelton-Davies is a senior reporter – the highest designation in the program – and a member of the Executive Board. She has written about a range of topics, including Al-Shabab, school safety protocols, a North Minneapolis women’s shelter and interfaith youth groups. She’s also interviewed two mayors – St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

We at ThreeSixty are thrilled to have another summer to work with both of these students and help them take their journalism and communication skills to the next level. Be on the lookout for their work this summer!
